Week 4 Reflection

If you were given a chance to re-organize schools in ways that made sense in the 21st century how would you do it? What would you keep and what would you get rid of? How would you make schools more reflective of a diverse student body with myriad and changing needs?

I would not do it myself. I would organize a true community based participatory research organization that included all of the stakeholders. Parents, teachers, students, administrators from primary, secondary, and post-secondary - including technical schools, and have to include legislators as there isn't much local school district control....well, maybe I would change that or maybe not if the local resources are not able to adequately fund schools... I think we make mistakes constantly when "we" think we know what is needed and institute top-down change instead of including the actual community members who better understand their circumstances and needs. I do not think that children necessarily know what they need, but they do know what they appreciate and what works for them.
