Week 4 Prompt

For some reason I have really struggled with this prompt. I have found myself sitting and staring at it several times and I haven't decided if I truly found the answer that I was trying to find. If I were to re-organize schools in a way that it made sense in the 21st century I would first start with the seating. Students shouldn't have to sit in hard seats at a desk for 7 hours. I am a firm believer in flexible seating. So flexible seating would be a requirement in all classrooms. I would keep the structure of the school. Meaning that students would come in during the morning hours when their parents were going into work and then they would get out of school around the same time they do now. We would still have summers off because this allows for students to rest their brains and enjoy their time away from school. I feel like summer break should be July and August - only two months and then they would have more breaks throughout the year. After each quarter we would take a week long break. Breaks are great for students but the amount of information that is lost during the summer is too much so this would help reduce that. In the older ages they would have more life skills classes. Classes that will teach them how to succeed in finances. How to apply for college, a mortgage, a loan. All of this. But schools will also still have STEM and arts and music.

How do we make schools more reflective of a diverse student body when we have so many different needs and so many changing needs? I think it is important to have more of a diverse faculty. Often times education is full of women. More specifically, white women. It is important that we should promote the importance of teaching. We need to change as a society and stop putting negative connotations with education. We need to respect and take care of our educators which would then allow for our educators to take care of the students in their needs. If there is more respect on the professional field, then maybe more diverse professionals will want to become educators.
