Week 3 Pop Culture Derek Topp
With all the talk of relationships with robots in this week's book "Alone Together" I am reminded of the classic Will Smith film, iRobot. It is set in the future where robots become so advanced that they take over all the jobs in the world, and some robots are to keep humans safe. Eventually one of the robots goes against protocol and harms people, only to discover there are tons of robots who are starting to do this. It's sad to see that we have movies about AI eventually taking over humans, when it seems to be a very real possibility. In an anthropology class I took freshman year my professor claimed that technology has already become too advanced, and that a robot apocalypse is eminent. I'd sure like to believe that we would never become so dependent on robots, or give them so much power. But it seems with cell phones we have at least given technology control over our identities, who knows how long it is until they control more.
