Week 1 Popular Media Review
Identity Confusion in "Chambers" on Netflix.
Netflix recently released a series called "Chambers" (interested because it's my last name) starring the first lead Native American actress, Sivan Alyse Rose (named Sasha in series). The premise is that Sasha is a kind person and after she gets a heart transplant, the new organ retains a bit too much of its past owner. It retains memories, personality. Sasha is put into situations where she deals with negative identity stemming from her family. She lives with her uncle and they receive monthly letters from her grandfather. He lives on the reservation and wants to have a relationship with Sasha, but her uncle holds her back, wanting her to take advantage of this "new" life she was given after the heart transplant.
Culturally, Sasha is dealing with micro aggressions, potentially imposter syndrome, and a poor familial relationship. This causes her to "rebel" and do things she wouldn't normally do to find her truth including taking drugs, going to parties, etc.. Until her truth is found in the last episode (I won't spoil it) does she realize who she truly is, the kind person she was in the beginning.
