Week 1 Pop Culture Example

Rebellion by adolescents is something that is commonly shown in TV shows.  One TV show that I like to watch that displays this is Disney's "Good Luck Charlie."  This show has a middle school kid named Gabe and a high school girl named Teddy.  Both tend to rebel against their parents and do things they are not supposed to do at times.  In the episode "Driving Mrs. Dabney", Teddy is turning 16 and she wants to start driving.  Her dad said that she was not quite ready yet and she gets upset about that and rebels.  She starts carpooling with her neighbor, Mrs. Dabney, so that she can get more experience driving so she can prove that she is ready to get her drivers license.  This is an example of negative identity.  Teddy has other experiences doing this throughout episodes of the show.  Some examples include arguing about her phone and getting grounded after going places that her parents told her not to go to.  There are also examples of positive identity in the show.  Teddy is a good student who generally obeys her teachers.  When a teacher tells her what she needs to work on she does that most of the time.  This is the type of relationship I would like to have with my students when I become a teacher.
